Minor Version 1.22 Update

There were a few bugs in Version 1.20 that needed fixing….

  1. If you do not have an internet connection (or our server is down), MCL would assume that you are using a retired version of the program, and ask you to download a new one (closing the program in the process). This has been switched so that default is that your version if current, if no version information is found on the internet.
  2. When changing to the database structure, we got some reports that throwing your own logos into the Color and BW folders did not auto populate. If you’re using the logos from the MCL server, this doesn’t affect you, but for some countries, this means manual addition of many logos. This bug has now been fixed.

I would recommend that you download this update- the changes are few, but important.

Enjoy!

VERSION 1.20 RELEASED!

My Channel Logos V1.20 is now available!

After many long months, we’ve finally got a new version of My Channel Logos! Many of you have probably been happy without even opening MCL for a while, but it is very important that you download the new version.

There are changes to the underlying structure of our database that make previous versions non-functional. So please download the new version! All future logo updates will only be delivered in V1.20 (and higher) from now on.

We are hoping that everything will work perfectly from the get-go. But this is a major redesign, and we only have a few computers to test this on, so we may not have encountered every potential issue. Hopefully we can get any issues ironed out quickly.

What’s new in V1.20?

  • New Database that allows for multiple callsigns to reference the same logo image when using Autopopulate. That will make it easier for me to improve autopopulate matching in the future and add new logos. It also means you don’t have to download multiple copies of the same logo to your computer! And other countries should have much easier and faster access to US logos.
  • Faster autopopulate with newer database. I had 322 logos assigned in 5 seconds.
  • Drag-and-drop logo assignment: Make manual assignment easier by simply dragging your own png right into the dark blue box when a callsign is selected.
  • New Download Screen gives you a better idea of progress in downloading logos from the web
  • Multi-Select Exemptions- easier to pick more logos for Autopopulate to leave alone. Just hold shift or ctrl.
  • No more pop-up window for ‘Autopopulate’ and ‘Remove all’. Just one less click to worry about.
  • Checks for new versions of MCL when you open

What’s fixed in V1.20?

  • No more error when you click on the blue box after manually adding a logo
  • Remove All no longer removes the Internet TV logos
  • New versions will now install over previous versions without requiring uninstall
  • New check  for TV Tuner setup
  • Region window has been rearranged so that it’s less confusing.
Any New Logos in V1.20?
  • All new Music Choice logos, for any of the 46 music channels
  • Added HD Showtime logos, TMC Extra HD, MTV HD, Baby First, Centric TV, Live Well HD (ABC Subchannel- you'll have to manually assign, as callsigns differ drastically)
  • New color BBC1 and BBC2 logos, New Viva Logos (thanks Ben!)
  • Reconfigured logos that are easier to see: Food Network, MLBTV, NBA TV
  • Other logos that have been revised by the networks: Cartoon Network, HRTV, NASA Channel, Cooking TV (formerly Fine Living), BYU TV (thanks traek!), CNN International, Comedy Central HD
  • A few local Arizona stations (thanks traek!)

Speed up Guide loading
For those of you who have been living and loving logos in your guide for a while now, you may notice that when you open the guide, it takes a bit longer to scroll through your listings. It's understandable that displaying hundreds of images is a bit more complicated than just displaying the boring text.

Fortunately, there are some easy (and some more complicated) methods to speed that process up. It involves reducing your reliance on the slower hard disk drives. I'm not going to get into how to format these things, but you should know that they are there.

1) Add a USB Flash Drive to your system, and use it for ReadyBoost. This is the quickest and easiest way to speed up Guide loading.
2) Put your operating system on a Solid State Drive instead- these give a noticeable jump in speed on your entire system. People often say that it is the best upgrade you can make to your PC.
3) Store the Guide Database on a RAM Disk. This is the complicated one you'll have to go to TGB for.

More New logos
A big thank you to everyone who contributed logos to the database. I apologize for taking so long to add them; I have been extremely busy recently.

I'm not going to try naming the approximately 100 new logos. But if you live in the US, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France or Germany, there are new logos in there for you.

Two remarks regarding Logo submissions:
I unfortunately can not accept every logo that is sent to me. Sometimes, they are the wrong size, sometimes they don't follow the instructions in the logo section of this website, or sometimes I already have that logo and I just have to make a judgement call as to which one will work better in Media Center. I can't have two logos with the same name, so I have to choose one. But that does not mean you can't share your work with the world. There are plenty of forums out there, often dedicated to your specific country. For example, there is a set of Netherland logos available at degroeneknop. While they fit the correct logo dimensions, every logo was stretched to fit those dimensions. (It looks like the NBC peacock put on some weight!), so I decided I could not add them to the program. But all our Dutch users can certainly download them at degroeneknop! (Search for zenderlogos)

Secondly, if are missing a logo, check the programdata folder. It could already be there, just not named exactly for your tv provider. Also, if you are looking for a foreign-based logo, it may already be available in a different country. For example Cartoon Network is popular all over the world. So try temporarily switching to the US, download logos, and then switch back to your own country. That way, you will have access to the US logos too.

Once again, thanks to all those who have submitted logos. I am sorry if I could not accept all of yours. And thank you to everyone who has donated!

New Logos!

First off, for UK users, I’ve tried to make your logos match a little bit more for Sky satellite subscribers. So you’ll want to update your logos. I’m still working on that, so it’s still not perfect. There are still a lot of missing logos (especially those pesky +1’s); I’m hoping to deal with that in the next version of MCL.

Secondly, for US users: I’ve added a bunch of new logos, particularly HD ones. Logos include –new color cinemax logos (HD and not HD)– new HD sports logos, including NBA HD, Tennis HD, NFL Red Zone and NHL HD – new color HBO HD logos – other HD Logos, like Fox Business HD, Fox News HD, Style HD, Crime and Investigation HD, Wealth TV, Lifetime HD, MAVTV HD.

So the moral of the story: You should Update your logos in MCL, and reautopopulate!

PS. If you haven’t yet, please donate $3 for the program! I can’t do this without your support.
